A bedside table is small, but its dimensions can make an expensive bedroom feel either resolved or awkward. The correct size is tied to the finished mattress height, bed-frame width, lamp scale and the circulation left beside the bed.
1. Match height to the top of the mattress
A useful starting point is to keep the bedside tabletop roughly level with the top of the mattress, or within a few inches. This makes it comfortable to reach a phone, glass of water or switch while lying down. Very low tables can look elegant in photographs but may be inconvenient beside a tall mattress.
2. Choose width from the bed and wall, not a trend
